There are simply a lot of factors that will determine where you go if you have to bug-out. A lot. It can be overwhelming to think about everything you may need to consider, but I believe that we can make these decisions by thinking specifically about why we’re bugging out, and then deciding on the best location.
Get Out of the Danger Zone
Getting out of the “danger zone” is of utmost importance. Are you bugging out because of a impeding natural disaster? If so, your bug out location needs to be somewhere that is a safe distance from the threatened area. If you have to bug-out because of a hurricane, get as far away as possible. Going to your relative’s house five miles up the road probably isn’t going to offer you much security.
If you’re fleeing your area because of riots, break ins, etc., the biggest concern is heading to a safe location that is defensible. If you’re worried about safety, is the location you’re heading safe for your family to remain there for a length of time and can you defend your family if necessary.
