Homemade Face and Body Lotion Recipes

I’ve been thinking more about the facial products I use each day. I’ve used the same face lotion for years, for example, but I keep reading articles about how some of the ingredients in the beauty products we use are really not healthy for us. I’ve been thinking about changes I want to make, so when my face lotion bottle got low, I started researching. I came across this Cosmetic Pocket Guide that I’ve been comparing to my facial products, and decided to start looking for a homemade recipe to make my own facial lotion.

In my search for the perfect face lotion, I’ve found many recipes – the perfect facial moisturizer for me would have simple ingredients, no smell, would not be greasy, and would allow for easy storage. If you have the perfect recipe, let me know!

I’ve adapted the recipes here to only include ingredients that most of you will have on-hand, or can easily get. After all, if you have to spend a fortune on ingredients, you’re missing part of the reason you’re making your own body lotions. I want products to be good for me and good for my budget at the same time.

Natural Moisturizers for Your Face

Honey

Honey…a perfect moisturizer for your skin

Moisturizers are meant to provide your skin with moisture when it feels dry and itchy.  This is typically done with lotion, but off-the-shelf lotions can be full of a ton of other ingredients that aren’t very good for your body in the long-run. I want a really good lotion but I’m also really interested in trying natural moisturizers.

Do you use an expensive face-oil moisturizer? A few drops of olive oil or honey can be used to replace them – just thin the honey with water, and your face won’t be sticky afterwards. Start with 1-2 drops so you don’t end up greasy! Aloe, known for its soothing properties, is another excellent moisturizer ingredient.

If you’re more interested in recipes, I found a number of suggestions here that I’m still researching before I try them.  For now, I want to stick with nice and simple.

    • I’m not an expert on skin care so I don’t feel like I should offer too much advice. If natural remedies aren’t working, I would suggest visiting a dermatologist for professional help.Could it be an allergy or food sensitivity? Have you kept a food diary to see if your skin reacts worse after certain foods? I know that I go through phases with hormones when it seems like my face is out of control. I just try to take it in stride and keep oil cloths with me to remove oil when I’m shiny.

I hope you find something that works!
